During my recent business trip to Ometepe, I had the pleasure of staying at Lazy Crab Hostel in Balgüe, and it was an experience worth sharing. The energy here is infectious, making it a perfect spot for anyone seeking a genuine taste of island life. The warmth of the owners, Ryder and Gretta, truly sets Lazy Crab apart. Ryder, with his deep love for Ometepe, was incredibly attentive, going out of his way to ensure my stay was enjoyable. Though the hostel does not provide breakfast, the shared kitchen was well-equipped, allowing us to whip up our morning meals while enjoying the view of the terrace- a lovely space to gather with travelers and share stories. For adventure lovers like myself, Lazy Crab is an ideal base for exploring; it's located just 1.5 km from Maderas Volcano, perfect for hiking. They offer bicycle rentals, which I found to be a fantastic way to discover the stunning surroundings. Whether you're diving into local excursions or simply enjoying the relaxing atmosphere, this hostel provides great value for money and a chance to unwind in nature.
